Welcome to Who's Awesome Wednesday, the first edition! Who's Awesome Wednesday will be a feature of an awesome Etsy shop. I find the awesome shops, so you can check them out!
Shop Name & URL: Jeanie Bean Handknits
How did you choose the name of your shop? My given name
is Jean but I was always called “Jeanie”. I have 2 sisters with “J”
names as well – Julie and Joan. My parents used to run down the
line – “Julie, Jeanie, Joanie! Whatever your name is! Please hang up
your clothes!” When I went to school the kids called me “Jean Bean”
or “Jeanie Bean”.
What made you decide to start knitting? I learned to knit, crochet
and sew in high school. When I went to college and then began
working, life was so busy I barely had time to do anything! After
starting a family, we were on our yearly vacation to Sanibel Island and
I noticed a new yarn shop. I didn’t realize how much I missed knitting
until I bought those first few skeins and made a hat on the drive home.
I haven’t stopped since.
Do you have any advice for new shop owners? Read as much as
you can about owning a small business, create a variety of items you
love, and learn to take great photos. I would also advise reading as
much as you can about selling on Etsy. There is so much information
available directly on the Etsy site. A wealth of information can be
found in forum archives. And remember that Etsy is a great venue,
but bringing in customers is up to you! Stay positive and be patient.
What's been your biggest success thus far? Every time I make a
sale or receive a compliment on my work it validates the work I love.
What are you future goals for your shop? I’d love create more
home décor items.
What's your favorite item in your shop and why? I can’t choose
a favorite. I create things that I like. Knitting for me is about the way
the yarn feels and the textures that can be created. If I love a color or
texture of a yarn, I can’t help but buy it. What I choose to make with it
usually comes later.
Where else can we hang out with you at? I’ve just created a
FaceBook business page. I hope to meet some new friends to share
my work and bits of my life with. Jeanie Bean HandKnits Fanpage
